A History of the Louise Hillje Chamber of Commerce

The Louise Hillje Chamber of Commerce was officially incorporated on March 16, 1959.  The chamber was organized by an interested group of civic-minded citizens who saw the need to acquire, preserve, and disseminate valuable business, commercial and industrial information concerning Louise and the surrounding community.

The organization was formed to generally promote the interests of trade, increase facilities of commercial transactions and business within and around Louise, and to encourage the support of civic, social, and community enterprises for the general welfare and progressive growth of Louise.  The chamber was not organized to be political in nature.  The Chamber was organized for the exclusive purpose of promoting the public interests of the town of Louise.

In the beginning, a chamber slogan was coined.  And to this day, “Lot’s of clean country, air to share" is still our motto.

The Charter directors of the Chamber were R.D. Hillyer, S.B. Plummer, J.F. Chromcak, Marvin Trochta, D.H. Appling, Dr. John Boyd, D.O., Melvin Reid, M.W. Crowell, and R.S. Stockton.

C.S. “Bubba” Crowell, long-time President and leader of the Chamber was a strong advocate for the town of Louise and local community.  His loyalty and dedication were an inspiration to all.  Much of the survival and success of the chamber for the past 30 years is due to his efforts.

To this day the focus remains the same.  The Chamber encourages local citizens to shop in Louise to support the infrastructure of merchants that are so vital to the long-term survival of a rural town and community.  The Chamber advocates a clean, well-kept and maintained community, to attract new residents and visitors.  The chamber is a strong supporter of the youth and senior citizens of the area.  Primarily, the Chamber strives to enhance the quality of life and improve the surroundings for all the area residents.

Your support and confidence thru all these years is greatly appreciated.
